Ashton VE Day is a roaring success!

What an amazing time we all had on VE Day! Lockdown is tough and unwelcome; but it gave us a unique opportunity to have the whole village together, albeit in our front gardens, drives and verges, to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Andy Cooke has posted lots of photographs on the Ashton Noticeboard facebook page (sorry, we can’t share here) and as soon as we can, these and others will be posted in a gallery on the village website.

In the meantime, here is a photograph of one of our oldest residents, William Shead, with his WW2 medals. We will try to get more information on Bill when we write the VE Day Report for the website. He had a great afternoon meeting people and singing along to ‘We’ll Meet Again’. There was also a round of applause for Bill’s two NHS carers, obviously!
