The Bells of St Barbara’s to keep ringing!

A little piece of good news from our loyal bellringing team…
‘As you are doubtless aware all church services have been suspended and the National Bellringing Association has advised that ringers should no longer meet together to ring the bells.
My husband Nick, who is Tower Captain for Ashton and Beckford, and myself have decided to ring the bells at St. Barbara’s every Sunday morning for as long as we able while the current measures are in place. Nick is able to ring double handed so between us we will be able to ring three bells and hopefully make as joyful noise as possible without breaking any rules on social contact.
We were inspired to do this partly by reading that the bells in Italy are being rung as part of a novena prayer for deliverance, but also by a very positive text message sent to us by someone in the village when we had our final ringing session on Tuesday evening.
We hope that hearing the bells rung will lift spirits and continue to bear witness in these difficult times. Susan & Nick Hopkins’
