Thinking of Penny Scotland

We have received the very sad news that Penny Scotland died earlier this week. Her friend Jen Creese has written this tribute to Penny who played a huge part in the community over many years.

‘It has come as quite a shock, although we knew things were very serious.  Doreen Cope will be sending messages round to let her newspaper customers know.  We felt Ashton folk should be made aware of how much Penny contributed to the community over the years (when we were younger!).  She was chairman and secretary of the Social Centre over many years; she instigated the monthly luncheon club and also first organised the publicity etc. for Shindig performances.  She was a member of the W.I  and served many years on Committee.  Penny helped run Ashton Guides along with other mums and organised all the Ashton News deliveries for many years.  Penny was always busy with some project or another including her weekly dancing evenings with husband John.  Penny was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease just a few years ago and has also battled with breast cancer.  Her bravery and strength has been amazing and just four weeks ago we were at our Keep Fit class at Bredon. We shall all miss her terribly as she was such a great friend with a lovely sense of humour.

Penny’s funeral will be held at Evesham Crematorium on 19th November at 3.pm. Owing to the current restrictions, there may be limited seating, so please contact John on 01386 881594 or scotlandpj@gmail.comcreate new email if you would like to attend.

We are all thinking of John and the family at this sad time.
